Types of Injectables

The two main types of injectables are botulinum toxin type A injections or neuromodulators and dermal fillers. There are also several other treatments that are included in the injectable category.

BOTOX® Cosmetic

BOTOX® Cosmetic at Radiance Skin Therapy reduces dynamic wrinkles linked to facial expressions such as frowning, smiling, and squinting. This injectable medication is made from botulinum toxin and prevents certain facial muscles from moving for a limited time to soften wrinkles such as frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead wrinkles. BOTOX® Cosmetic has also recently been approved for temporarily improving the appearance of vertical bands connecting the jaw and neck (platysma bands).

Dysport® and Jeuveau®

Dysport® & Jeuveau are other botulinum toxin injectables or neurotoxins that work in the same way as BOTOX® Cosmetic. There are some subtle differences in terms of their dosage and results that may make one injectable a better option for your specific needs, but each has its own benefits. One of the major advantages of Dysport® is its spreadability. Due to its lower molecular weight, this injectable is ideal for treating larger areas such as the forehead.

Daxxify

Daxxify, another neuromodulator made from botulinum toxin type A, is a fast-acting and long-lasting injectable that reduces moderate to severe frown lines. What sets this injectable apart from its predecessors is that it is made from peptides or amino acids. Much like BOTOX® Cosmetic, the active ingredient in this injectable, botulinum toxin type A, is a neurotoxin that temporarily blocks nerve signals to muscles, preventing them from contracting and causing wrinkles. The stabilizing excipient, a synthetic peptide (RTP004), helps to ensure that the botulinum toxin remains stable and effective, and in many cases the peptide helps the quality of the skin itself. Neuromodulators typically have a duration of three to four months on average, but some patients notice that the results of this injectable last an additional month or two.

Collagen & DermalFillers

Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers are injected under the skin to restore volume, sculpt, smooth fine lines, or add definition. There are various types of injectable fillers available, each of which is made with different substances, which makes them very customizable for use in areas of the face, neck, chest, and hands. We offer the JUVEDERM® collection, RHA® collection, Revanesse® Versa, Restylane®, Restylane Lyft®, Restylane® Refyne, Restylane® Defyne, Sculptra® fillers, Evolysse Smooth, and EvolysseForm.

JUVEDERM®

We lose collagen, fat, and bone as we age, causing certain facial features to become flatter or thinner or lose definition. The JUVEDERM® line of injectable hyaluronic acid-based fillers consists of products that can each target specific areas of the face, such as the cheeks, lips, jawline, chin, and nasolabial folds.

Restylane®

Restylane® is also available from our practice. This line of hyaluronic acid- based fillers can add volume to reduce wrinkles or improve the look of facial contours. Restylane® can treat the same areas of the face as the JUVEDERM® collection and contains the same active ingredient, but it comes from a different manufacturer. The main difference between these two fillers lies in their consistency. Restylane® has a more cohesive, dense, and granular texture while JUVEDERM® is smoother and more gel-like. The cohesiveness of Restylane® may help it to stay in place, so it may be ideal for adding volume to deep-set facial areas or areas that move frequently while JUVEDERM® works particularly well for finer lines and tighter facial areas. Neither injectable is “better” than the other – it all depends on which one is most suitable for achieving your desired look. Both Restylane® and JUVEDERM® are used for various situations.

Sculptra®

Sculptra® is a biostimulatory injectable filler or collagen stimulator that helps the body create more of its own collagen to rejuvenate the full face and body, providing subtle and natural volume and repositioning of the skin along with changes in skin quality. This injectable contains poly-L-lactic acid as its active ingredient.

Lip Injections

Lip Injections from our Madison, WI practice, including lip fillers and BOTOX® lip flips, can provide fuller and shapelier lips with subtle enhancements. Lip injections can be fully customized based on your unique aesthetic goals.

KYBELLA®

KYBELLA® provides a slimmer, more defined jaw area by reducing stubborn fat in the area between the chin and neck that causes the appearance of a double chin and is also used off-label in the jowl area to reduce the heaviness in the lower face. This injectable causes fat cells to break down and be flushed out of the body naturally and the result is permanent.

Bio-Fillers

EzGEL bio-fillers at Radiance Skin Therapy utilizes PRF to help promote collagen and elastin in the skin. This treatment provides a smoother skin texture, natural volume, and more youthful contours. PRF and another tissue growth factor that is used regenerative medicine, PDGF (platelet-derived growth factor), also support hair rejuvenation.

PDO Threads

A thread lift with polydioxanone or PDO threads from PDO Max at our practice is a facial rejuvenation treatment that can provide a more youthful appearance, bridging the gap between injectable fillers and neuromodulators and more aggressive surgical solutions. Thread lifts address concerns such as jowls, wrinkles, nasolabial folds, and skin laxity.

Hair Restoration

Hair restoration treatments at Radiance Skin Therapy to address thinning hair include PRF and Ariessence Pure PDGF+. These procedures provide noticeable but subtle and natural-looking results for patients hoping to achieve fuller and thicker hair.

More Skin Enhancement Options

In addition to injectables like BOTOX® Cosmetic and JUVEDERM®, we also provide many energy-based treatments, along with skin rejuvenation treatments. These other treatments can complement or further enhance the results from injectables.

Our skin rejuvenation options such as chemical peels, microdermabrasion, and microneedling, and laser & light treatments not only reduce the appearance of wrinkles but also address other cosmetic condition that cannot be improved with injectables on their own. These procedures enhance the overall appearance of your complexion.
