LED Treament

How do LEDs work to treat acne?

One of the key bacteria responsible in the production of acne is P. Acnes. This bacteria is sensitive to the wavelength of Blue LED lights, and therefore, the lights are able to neutralize this destructive bacteria. RED lights are also used in acne therapy to reduce inflammation and unwanted pigment.

Who can benefit?

Anyone suffering with acne will benefit and this therapy will also help with certain types of rosacea.

What results can I expect?

The results are individual, but the majority of patients can expect a 70-80% reduction in lesions. Results are often seen in as little as two weeks, but optimal results will be reached 4-12 weeks after the last light treatment is finished. With use of medical-grade home care products, results are excellent for a majority of patients.

How many treatments will I need?

We suggest a four-week treatment plan. The treatment course is typically 2 treatments each week for 4 weeks – 8 treatments in total. In most cases, we also suggest 2 exfoliation treatments. The first exfoliation treatment is done during week 1, and the second is done during week 3. We do this immediately prior to your light treatment. This is an optimal regimen for most, but we will customize a plan for you according to your needs.

How do LEDs treat these conditions?

With age, the cells that manufacture the skin’s supportive structure, collagen and elastin, become sluggish. Our environment can add to this process with free radical activity, which causes cells to become unhealthy. Red LEDs target specific cells which are responsible for repairing our skin’s collagen and elastin fibers. This leads to softening of wrinkles, a reduction in redness and inflammation, and skin that looks fuller and tighter in appearance.

What results can I expect?

Initially, you will notice a difference in the feel of your skin, as it will feel smoother and tighter. As the course of the treatment is completed, you will see a softening of fine lines and wrinkles, and a better overall tone to your skin. These changes can continue to improve for 4 to 6 months after your treatment is completed.
